IFComp 2015: Crossroads

By Cat Manning (play here).

What drives you to the witch? What drives you to risk your life and your future to find her?

This feels like a meditative work on seeking renewal, or peace, or healing, but the nature of the PC’s troubles was so abstract that I felt it hard to find the emotional impact. I guess it’s just me – that I find it hard to relate when there’s nothing concrete being mentioned. If I read the game correctly, the author’s intent seems to be to bring the player through similar emotions – emotions that drive them to risk life and limb for a hope – but there was too little to grasp.

Crossroads was a plain game which, though technically fine, did not have too much to make it stand out.
